Now to 30th April 2025 // An exploration of The Unexpected Nature of the Gold Coast Pt. 1, featuring works from an acclaimed local artist Alana Hampton.
When: 17th January 2025 to 30th April 2025
Where: Hotel lobby, Sofitel Gold Coast Broadbeach
These 2024 works by local Gold Coast artist Alana Hampton integrate ideas and approaches to
the natural world formed over her four-decades long practice. Driven by a deeply sensed
belonging to the disappearing natural world, she works in fragile wetlands on the edge of the
country’s sixth largest city. Over the past 30 years, while anchored in-place as an art educator in
Southport, Alana has grown deeply connected to the Conservation Park which is five minutes
from her home. It is this unique place, perhaps unexpected in the built-up Gold Coast that has
become her great inspiration and one that is pivotal to her creative practice.
Her Coombabah Wetlands Project, begun in 2008 as a document of the ‘un-gardened’ beauty
that exists here on the Gold Coast, has informed this exhibition that call up near-mythic traces of
wildness hidden in clear sight as she explains:
“My practice is a fusion of sensate experience, imaginings and documentation gleaned from the
fringes between urbanity and the wild. I work in local precious habitats and places often seen as
abject that hold on in the face of urbanisation.”
The art exhibition runs until 30 April 2025. Don’tmiss the chance to experience these thought-provoking works.
